Hooded Vase

A quick sketch with Apple Pencil in Paper for iPad

The Hooded Vase started as a simple sketch in the iPad app Paper. I then modeled it using Autodesk Maya, which was quite painful to do. Maya is great, but it is not made for CAD design. Things are a lot easier today with programs like Autodesk's Fusion 360.

The first print arrived at work and looked great!

The Hooded Vase is an introvert and somewhat gloomy vase with the look of a hoodie.

The shape of the hood enables a directed positioning that reserves the view of the flower for your eyes only, much like the dashboard controls of an Alfa Romeo.

I printed the vase at Shapeways, and I was really impressed with the finish on the ceramic 3D print.
